Homeless People

Did you know that in 1999 there were only 14 emergency beds for homeless women in Brisbane while there were 500 for homeless men?

This information was made available through a report published by the Brisbane Homelessness Task Force (BHTF Report Nov 1999). Since then a number of charities have worked together to increase the number of emergency beds for women.

The Sisters of the Good Samaritan in partnership with St Vincent de Paul secured the support of the Brisbane City Council to also address the issue that when the crisis of emergency is over, women still need transitional accommodation. The Brisbane City Council agreed to lease to the Foundation, at a minimal fee, a block of four units.

Around the country, the Sisters of the Good Samaritan also help homeless people and provide as many beds as possible.
